Wheelhouse Learning is a boutique test prep and academic support firm catering to students of all ability levels. We believe that, with the right framework and support, all students can be successful. We meet students where they are by leveraging their individual strengths and helping them to develop an understanding of their own learning styles. Our reach is beyond just test scores: we aim to foster in students a sense of self-efficacy and confidence.

 

We work primarily with high school students via Zoom and other videoconferencing platforms. We are looking for a candidate who is proficient in math and English and passionate about education. This position is part-time and somewhat seasonal as it is dependent on the academic calendar.

Applicants must:

  • be extremely comfortable with the content covered on the SAT and/or ACT 

  • be able to provide proof of high (>98th percentile) standardized test scores 

  • have some familiarity with learning disabilities

  • have access to reliable transportation

  • have prior tutoring or coaching experience

  • be willing to work evenings and weekends

  • have a predictable schedule: tutors schedule directly with clients, who expect the same slots to be open from week to week

  • be willing to make a long-term (one year or more) commitment

  • be able to pass a background check

  • have a clean driving record

  • have completed a bachelor’s degree or at least two years of college with degree in progress

You may be a good fit if you:

  • are comfortable with unpredictable demand: your initial client base will grow from our surplus demand. As you build up a referral base, it is very likely that you will see an increase in the number of students on your schedule. 

  • are passionate about providing engaging and accessible instruction

  • enjoy seeking out patterns and making connections between disparate ideas and concepts

  • are intellectually curious. We love people who love learning.

  • have a sense humor and a willingness to roll with the punches

  • are patient, empathetic, and enthusiastic
